INSTITUTE TECHNOLOGY OF TELKOM

Private University is an alternative oh highcost education in Bandung.

Nowadays there come lots of critics for the BHMN (for the abbreviation for Badan Hukum Milik Negara). The criticts was brought to the most favourite universities in Indonesia. They are USU, UI, UGM, UPI, ITB, and IPB. BHMN is marked as a commerce department in education aspects. It really has opposite side with the main mission of that department. To get education in those favourite universities, parents of the college students should be able to spend their money out in great amounts of Rupiahs. News from Republika Online on August 30^th 2004 informs that its amounts can reach approximately millions rupiahs. On that case, there comes protest and demos from college students, parents, and civils for that policy that has negative effect for groups of under-prosperity people.

There are three main reasons for the protest itself. First, the high level education for recently years is elitte and becomes more ellite for years. It means that kind of education is only dedicated for the uplevel prosperity people. The “education tarrif” which is very high for Government Universities will make the character of elitism. This condition is not appropriate with the law of education itself. Since the law has principle that the education should spread to whole structure of society. Since the education is one of the main human rights for citizen that should be fulfilled by Government. Second reason is the ideologic aspect for that case. Fact proves that the education can be only received by a medium till uplevel prosperity people. For years, the high level education can be reached by the rich people. But, for the poor one, they get difficult access to accept pathway in education itself.
Third, the policy of BHMN can affect on the quality of education. It can reduce the standard of quality in education itself, especially in case that the “high tarrif paying” should maintain and loose the “high quality of education.In other words, the conflict of society could occur in university.

Institute Tech of Telkom (IT Telkom) is the center of excellence in Bandung. It can be seen and proven by the quality of the institute itself. It also supports the quality on four main aspects. They are the qualified human resources in academic or teaching. The second aspect is the facility of library. Third is the laboratorium itself. Fourth is the quality of the college building and offices. Fifth is the supporting access such as the connection of computers and internet connection to enable college students of IT Telkom to academic sources for instance the science journals, and publications of the researches and the study groups also the laboratory works. In the external fund, IT Telkom has its charisma. Through various persuasive ways, IT Telkom can attract the source of potential funding, both from the independent department and the social foundation. They can donate IT Telkom in great amounts of funding to support all the activities of college students and to make scholarships for the students. There fore, we can conclude that Institute Technology of Telkom has superiorities on those kinds of creativities in external fundings.
